Rest In Peace : Wii

The PS3 and 360 are rising! PS3 sales are going up steadily! Kinect is the fastest selling item! 360's sales are still great! What about the Wii? For the last year or so, there are nearly no news on the Wii. Wii is the only "next-gen" console that doesn't progress. At all. And Nintendo has practically abandoned it now.

With the rumors that the Wii will be cut in price to 150 $ on May 15, 2 weeks prior to the unveiling of Wii 2, retailers have slashed the price from today. Bestbuy, Gamestop and Target are all selling their Wii bundle for 170$, black and white version alike.

To be fair, I don't think the price cut will affect the sale number that much. Let's face it, Wii's golden age is over. Wii's hype and impact from when it's first unveiled 5 years ago? Gone. Look at the cold hard fact, after a couple of years from the Wii's release, new "great" games stopped appearing, while for the PS3, and 360, games are still being released, even now. In fact, the last great game for Wii that I remember was Super Smash Bros Brawl, and it's been 3 years since that game was released.

Of course the Wii was fun to play. At the beginning. And it gave a dream for gamers to actually exercise with gaming ( Though I doubt a lot of people actually gets results from exercise with the Wii ). As time goes, what makes a console totally worth buying is the games on it after all, and Wii doesn't deliver the games to actually complement the innovative system. With the lack of games, of course the Wii is going downhill. And died

Now, Nintendo seems like they have abandoned the Wii, and put their hopes on the 3DS and Wii 2. And what can I say? The 3DS is truly innovative, it's a breakthrough all right. Just like the Wii the first time it came out. Though 3DS lacks the impact, unlike the Wii that was sold out everywhere when it came out, the 3DS has quite a number of major games in store to be released this year, which hopefully will boost the sales of 3DS.

I won't post any speculation on the Wii 2, let's just wait for the official unveiling from Nintendo on June! And I sincerely hope that this time, the Wii 2 will do better.
