April Console Sales

Well, reports are out! Let's see and how consoles perform this time~ April's quite a big month after all, the PSN outage, the confirmation from Nintendo that there will be a Wii successor playable at E3, etc.

April Sales:
Nintendo:
3DS : 194,000
Wii : 172,000
DS :257,000

Nintendo's shortfall comes just weeks before the company will unveil its next platform. Late last month, the game giant confirmed rumors it was working on a new console that would be released during 2012--and be playable at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next month. Speculation pegs the platform as having a hybrid tablet and button-based controller, which may be able to stream games onto an integrated screen, according to unconfirmed reports

Sony:
PS3 : 204,000

Weak numbers compared to it's competitors, but after all, Sony has bigger problems at the moment. Sony gave its own response to the numbers, saying that PlayStation 3 sales had risen 13 percent year-over-year despite the ongoing PlayStation Network outage, which is now in its third week.

The PSN Outage didn't contribute much to the PS3 sales for April though, given that the outage started at the 20th. But for May's sales, that's more interesting, there's probably a significant change in this numbers with the PSN being down for nearly the whole month.

Microsoft:
Xbox 360 : 297,000

Following the announcement, GameSpot spoke with Xbox Group product manager David Dennis, who said that Xbox 360 sales climbed a massive 60 percent sales in April. Total retail spend on the Xbox platform reached $310 million during the month, a figure which the company says beats out Nintendo and Sony.

In the past 11 of 12 months, the 360 has topped PS3 and Wii! But with these strong sales figures in mind, Xbox Group Product Manager David Dennis said that gamers should not expect the Xbox 360 to follow the Wii's price cut. "You really only drop price when you need to, and with the continued momentum that we've got, we don't have any plans in the works," he said. "As long as we continue to bring great games and have good momentum, that isn't something you'll see us consider."

Saying Kinect sales are "as expected," Dennis also noted that Kinect isn't likely to see a price cut any time soon. "Not right now," he said. "The momentum around it is great. The games pipeline is a rich one, and I think we'll keep things where they're at until we see otherwise." As for that pipeline, Microsoft said that it expects to triple the Kinect games portfolio by the end of the year.

Sooo... no price cut for 360 and Kinect this year.
