Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk 2

The sequel to Hyperdimension Neptunia,or as Gamespot calls it, the "hypersexualized role-playing game" will be out soon-ish! It's not clear whether NIS America will localize the game.

If the first one represents console wars, this one represents handheld wars! According to Compile Heart, Neptunia Mk2 will have improved graphics and a revised battle system. You can make parties with up to four characters and combine attacks using the Lily system. The game industry (the business, not the place) evolved too and everyone is using real time chat. Here’s where you’ll see references to video game icons like El Shaddai, Mario, Segata Sanshiro, Toro (the Sony cat), and Tales.

This game is PS3 exclusive, and will be released on August 2011, (if there are no delays). The standard edition will cost 7329 Yen ( $89.38 ), and the premium edition will cost 9429 Yen( $114.99 ). There's no need to be alarmed though. The price in dollars will be more than likely to be a lot different ( if NISA decides to localize it ), the premium box will probably cost the same as the premium box for the first neptunia ( seeing as the first neptunia's premium box also costs 9429 Yen ), which is $59.99

But seeing the butchering western critics did to the game, it's not unthinkable for NISA not to localize it.

Gamespot's review:
Seems like gamespot is really sensitive about Japanese ecchi games eh? They slandered Neptunia to a whopping 3.0, while players rate it at 7.8.

Another data from Gamefaqs:

The game is indeed quite revealing, with a lot of perverse stuff showing all around the characters. But hey, that's 100% okay, and most anime are like that anyways, so what's the problem with a bit of sexuality from anime girls? It's not like they're actually "Disturbingly Sexualized Young Girls", as gamespot said.

Seriously, the game's nowhere near the level of actually "disturbing" in my opinion. A lot of games and anime are a lot more disturbing than this game. This game is actually quite normal.

I sure hope that NISA will localize this!

  1. Thanks for that buddy! By the way the biggest French website trounced the game as well (7/20) even though readers obviously liked it (14/20). Those so-called game journalists lost the last bit of credibility they had : they're merely a bunch of west-RPG lovers who have all the same tastes (Skyrim best RPG 2011 already everywhere) and disregard everything else. from now on I won't trust reviews anymore.

Hyperdimension Neptune is not disturbing (proof being that it's rated Teen), particularly if you compare with AR Tonelico 3 (MKII might be though, expect a mature rating this time). I will buy MKII next month while in Japan and I'm really looking forward to it.

And don't worry about the western release : the US version of the first Neptune outsold the Japanese version despite the bad reviews.
