Anonymous on the Colbert Report

EDIT : Wow, the full video is scrapped from youtube.

The story in another site : Here

Recently, Anonymous has been appearing in news all over the place. I'll lay out the basics here just for you, my readers.

First, they become really famous after Operation Payback
Quoted from wikipedia :
Operation Payback is a coordinated, decentralized group of attacks on opponents of internet piracy by internet activists using the "Anonymous" moniker. Operation Payback started as retaliation to distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on torrent sites; piracy proponents then decided to launch DDoS attacks on piracy opponents. The initial reaction snowballed into a wave of attacks on major pro-copyright and anti-piracy organizations, law firms, and individuals. Following the United States diplomatic cables leak in December 2010, the organizers commenced DDoS attacks on websites of banks who had withdrawn banking facilities from WikiLeaks.

After that, it's the war with HBGary Federal's head, Aaron Barr, News on BBC

What is anonymous?
Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is an Internet meme originating 2003 on the imageboard 4chan, representing the concept of many on-line community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, digitized global brain.[1] It is also generally considered to be a blanket term for members of certain Internet subcultures, a way to refer to the actions of people in an environment where their actual identities are not known

In a nutshell,
Aaron Barr tried to actually find out who are the key leaders of anonymous, using speculation from social networking site. After boasting it to anonymous, Barr was bitten, hard. HBGary.com is taken down, stole Barr's email, deleted the company's backup data, wiped his iPad, etc etc etc.
